And let's pay tribute to Paula Abdul before she went all crazy.  Despite what anyone thinks of her today, she was a huge pop star and obtained a level of success most only dream of.  Let's remember her at her high point.  After all, she dated Arsenio Hall, MARRIED Emilio Estevez...and brought us MC Skat Kat!

2013 Grammys

A dress code memo?  No flesh?  This is the Grammy's!  It is supposed to be the best outfits and best music of the awards season.  I thought both missed the mark.  Or am I just too difficult to please these days? 

My favorite moment of the show was J.Lo's entrance with the massive slit.  Then her comment about how she "got the memo" and then the other guy said she "inspired the memo".

Did anyone else notice Beyonce's reaction to J.Lo?  She was like "whaaaat...I could have worn that?".  Instead she chose pants...yes, PANTS...to the Grammy's.  I realize Middle America Mothers Against Leotards (MAMAL) did not appreciate her Super Bowl attire, but there is something in between a PETA hating snake/iguana skin leotard and a pants suit that you would wear to lunch.  It's called a dress.

My other beef with the Grammys, and music in general these days, is what happened to the rock stars?  Ugly, skinny guys who know how to play a guitar???  I can't say I'm in love with any of the music this year.  Johnny Depp was the only guy there who actually looked like a rock star...except for the bad self tanner.  Ok, maybe he's part pirate, part rock star.

Most beautiful goes to Carrie Underwood. She looked better on TV than in this picture. 

I did not enjoy her movie screen dress though during her performance.  I prefer when they let her be feisty.

Most annoying goes to Taylor Swift.  I thought she was maturing but now I take that all back.  And I am seriously questioning her singing ability as well.

Super Un-Bootylicious

There is no doubt Beyonce was singing live during the half time show of the Super Bowl, but I am shocked by all the glowing reviews!  I was laughing at how bad I thought it was.  Did anyone else notice how little actual SINGING she was doing?  She was mostly grunting and stomping and posing and flipping her hair.  Most of the singing was being done by some excellent back-up singers.  Oh and when Kelly and Michelle joined to form Destiny's Child again, their microphones seemed to be turned on much too low. 

And what has Beyonce done to her face?  She's clearly had some work done on her nose and is starting to look like Tyra Banks to me.  She's even "smiling with her eyes".

Golden Globes Best and Worst Dressed

Picking the best dressed woman at the Golden Globes was not easy...and not in a good way.  I was overall appalled by most of the dresses.  I hated the nude toned looks and all the strapless dresses made most of them look saggy.  Anyway, I have to choose, so....

Best dressed goes to Jessica Alba (minus the distracting bag).

And Claire Danes looked amazing for just having a baby.

There were so many to choose from for worst dressed, but I'm going to pick Jennifer Lopez. 

And Sienna Miller.

People's Choice Awards Best And Worst Dressed

It's award season!  Which means I will be posting who I think was the best and worst dressed at each event. 

Best dressed goes to Taylor Swift!  She normally annoys me with her aw shucks good girl attitude so I like the more grown up look.

 

Next best dressed is Lea Michele!  Glee normally down plays her figure, but I think she's really cute and usually looks great on the red carpet.

I hate to say it because I am a big fan, but Jennifer Aniston was the worst dressed.  Just because your fiance likes the biker look does not mean you need it too.  Or is she hiding a bump???

Next up is the Golden Globes this Sunday!

Channeling Cherie Currie

Taylor Momsen, aka Jenny or "Little J" on Gossip Girl, thinks she's all grown up.  She went from being a typical pretty blond girl to channeling Cherie Currie from the Runaways.  Taylor is now the lead singer for a band called The Pretty Reckless which I didn't take seriously until I saw that they played at the Montreux jazz festival this year, not that her band has anything to do with jazz though.  I've always liked girls who can rock and Taylor definitely can!  I think she's an idiot away from the stage with her attitude and thinking she's so grown up, but I checked out her music on You Tube and actually like some of it.

Note that they are both 16 or 17 in these pictures.  The Runaways crashed and burned after being together only 3 years.  Let's hope Taylor doesn't have the same fate.

Why We Love Pippa

I admit it, I think Pippa looked great at her sister's wedding and I'm curious about her.  But what makes her so different than Paris Hilton?  Nothing.  The American public is drawn to pretty charismatic women and these two have a lot in common.

1. Grew up in a life of privilege
2. Never needed to work
3. Primarily supported by their parents, even as adults
4. Sense of fashion style
5. Close with her sister
6. Likes media attention
7. Unique name
8. Never held a real full time job
9. Life of the party
10. Famous for no good reason

I'm sure the royal family is keeping tabs on her to make sure she doesn't do anything to embarrass them.  Hopefully there won't be a mug shot in her future.  I wish her the best with her new found celebrity...I'll be watching!

Kate & Michelle: Real or Wax Figures?

When I saw this picture online, I thought it was from a wax museum!  I can't believe how tiny Kate is!!!

And why do the Royal women always carry a purse?  You'd think Kate and the Queen could have someone hold it for them. 

A Royal Good Time

Thank you to Will, Kate and the Royal Family for putting on a great show!  This world seems to be filled with sadness lately with one horrible thing happening after another.  The wedding gave us something happy to focus on, if only for a little while.  I thought Kate looked so beautiful...and it had nothing to do with her dress.  Her smile and radiance is what made her beautiful.  She looked truly truly happy and I wish them the best! 

When I woke up that morning, the first thing I did was look at my phone to see a picture of her dress (my phone is my alarm clock so it is by the bed). I taped the wedding on two channels in case one had better coverage than the other.  I watched in on BBC America which seemed more appropriate than having Matt Lauer tell me about it.  I thought her dress was a little demure, but I know there are rules about what a bride can wear in Westminster Abbey (no bare arms!).  I loved Pippa's dresses, both day and night version.  I was shocked to see her in white but it all looked very elegant.  I also loved Kate's evening dress.  I obviously do not know her, but the idea of a "middle class" woman marrying a prince made me so happy for her.

Kate's Royal Fruit Cake

Kate and William's wedding cake is going to be a fruit cake.  Instead of finding this odd, I find it redeeming. I too had a fruit cake for my wedding cake.  Apparently it is a British tradition.  True, I am not British, but I did get married in Australia so maybe it is a tradition there too. 

I thought my wedding was perfect...except for the cake.  Every year as our anniversary comes up I think about going to a bakery and getting my dream wedding cake made.  I planned my wedding over the internet and when the wedding planner told me the standard cake that came with the package was fruit cake, for some reason in my mind I thought this meant a white cake with fruit filling...which would have been delicious.  Not only was it fruit cake, it was covered in royal icing which is impossible to cut through because it sets rock hard.  We eventually hacked our way through it, but the cutting of the cake was not the highlight of wedding.  I don't like fruit cake, but I did eat a piece since I was starving because I did not eat or drink anything before the wedding. 

My Brush with the D List

On my recent trip to Vegas, I didn't have any true celebrity sightings, but I did have a couple brushes with the D list...although if there were an E list, that might be a better classification for these people.

While at the Ghost Bar we saw a camera crew shooting some people dancing.  I didn't think much of it at first.  Then we noticed there was one particular person they seemed to be following.  He didn't look familiar at all and was too small to be an athlete.  They were filming him talking to three girls which made us wonder if it was a reality show.  When he walked away from them, I commented to my friend that it couldn't be a TV show or the girls would need to sign a waiver.  About 10 seconds after I said that a man with a clipboard came up to them and had them sign some paperwork.  One of my friends asked someone working there what they were filming and they said, "The Real World".  We later saw them filming another scene with a guy and girl sitting on a a couch trying to look all serious.  It just looked really fake to have all this music and dancing going on and then these bright lights on two people having "serious" conversation.

Another night I was gambling at the MGM at a fun table where we were all talking.  The usual questions went around....where are you staying, where are you from, and what do you do for a living.  One guy stated he was an actor living in LA and another person said to him, somewhat sarcastically, "how is that going for you?".  Actor man said it was going well so the other guy asked if we'd seem him in anything to which he replied he was in a Goodyear commercial and would be a recurring character on the upcoming season of Friday Night Lights.  That last part got my attention!  Not that I was so intrigued by him, but I love that show so I quizzed him on what his character would be doing and then also asked all sorts of questions about the cast.  If anyone is watching the new season, he plays Derek, Julie's TA at college.  He was the only quiet one at the blackjack table and didn't really want to talk to us so I asked my questions and then let it go. 

So that's it...my brush with the D list.  My friend on the other hand, was chosen to be a participant in the David Copperfield show and he made her disappear from the stage!

Let Suri Have Friends Already

Suri Cruise doesn't have any friends.  She spends all her time with her mom and her dolls.  Now they say Suri, 4, is going to be home schooled!!!!  Let this little girl try to be normal and play with other kids.  People say she acts too much like an adult for her age, and it's not surprising since it's only adults she spends time with. If not, eventually she is going to let loose and do whatever she wants.  I'd hate to see her be the next "celebrity" addict. 

Oh Miley

I haven't been reading the gossip blogs as much lately since I really just don't care anymore, but I stayed home from work sick today and was bored after I got all caught up on my TV shows.  Two different sites had stories about Miley Cyrus.

First, I see on People.com that Miley has a "dramatic new do".  Well, anyone can tell she just had her extensions taken out, but ok...call it dramatic if you want.  The story then goes on to say how she wants a more "mature" look.  I think she looks way older than 17 in this picture, but she sounds 35 as well, so the two go together.

















Then I go to TMZ and see this picture.  I initially thought it was some random club go-er in Vegas or something, but then saw the headline saying Miley's outfit "Rated NC-17".















I can't quite figure out what look she's going for here?  I wouldn't call it "more mature".  What do you think?

The Blind Side

Most of my adult life there have been two actresses in Hollywood that I just could not stand. I would avoid a move if it had Sandra Bullock or Andie Macdowell in it. I found them both really annoying. Well, I can admit when I'm wrong and say that Sandra Bullock was AMAZING in The Blind Side. I watched it over the weekend (on the Roku of course) and loved it! She made that movie and it didn't even seem like it was her. Bravo! A much better movie than The Hurt Locker. I might even become a Ravens fan now that I know the story of Michael Oher.

Time Flies

Time flies when you're having fun, but also when you're busy. Days and weeks just go by lately and I didn't even realize it's been almost a week since I posted something here. I'm still super busy at work and I don't see it slowing down at all. We went into DC over the weekend for dinner and saw Chelsea Handler's stand up act. The opener was much better this time around (Heather McDonald), but Chelsea used a lot of material I had heard before or read in her book. I didn't enjoy her last book very much. It felt like she was forced to write it and she didn't really want to. I started baking dog treats again last night. I'm going to try to focus on just six products to keep things simple. I hired a graphic designer to do a header for my Caribbean blog, but she can't start for about a month which gives me some time to get some of the content ready. That's all for now!

Golden Globes Best & Worst Dressed!

Best Dressed goes to Jennifer Aniston! I always love how she dresses, simple and elegant.





















First runner up for Best Dressed is Fergie! I am not a Fergie fan at all, but I thought she looked great. And her husband handled Ryan Seacrest's question, "What was the impetus for you two renewing your wedding vows?" pretty well. Come on Ryan...we all know it's because he slept with a stripper.

Worst Dressed is Chloe Sevigny. I know she is known as a "fashionista", but I just don't get it.

















And finally for Worst Dressed...Julie Roberts. This isn't that bad, but I expect more from her.

Where's Tiger?

Almost as amazing as Tiger keeping all his affairs secret for so long is how he has disappeared since the scandal broke after his car accident on Thanksgiving. There is no proof of where he is, but here are the guesses from the gossip pages.
